God’s Character: This month, as we pray for our businesses, business owners, employees, and those at a crossroads with their jobs, take time to focus on who God is as King and the fact that He is not a King who came to be served, but to serve-
- The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle -Psalm 24:1,8
- Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many -Matthew 20:26-28
- In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness -Phil 2:6-8
THANKSGIVING
Take time to thank God for the ways you see Him at work in our businesses and in the lives of those who work there:
Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper -Jer 29:7
- Thank Him for the businesses that are prospering and bringing blessing to our communities
- Business Owners who are using their companies and resources to generously help others
- Managers who show kindness, grace and compassion for those they lead
- Employees who are not conforming to the patterns of this world, but transforming their workplaces
CONFESSION/REPENTANCE
We can confess personal sins we have committed. We can also pray a prayer of corporate confession on behalf of a people/community (see Daniel 9).
Take time to confess any areas of sin God brings to mind (personal or corporate) and ask Him to give us clean hands and pure hearts (Psalm 24).
- God, we have sinned by allowing the love of money to take root in our hearts (1 Tim 6:10). Forgive us for putting our trust in riches and not in You. We acknowledge that You are our great reward and the pearl of great price
- Forgive us for any practices of dishonest gain and oppressing others to promote ourselves. Help us to be faithful stewards of what you have given us and to use those things to bless others
- God, we have sinned by striving after earthly gain and trusting in our own strength. Help us to cease striving and enter your rest (Hebrews 4:9-10)
INTERCESSION
Pray for God’s Kingdom to come and His will to be done here on earth, in our businesses, as it is in heaven.
BUSINESS OWNERS
- Pray business owners would see themselves as stewards versus owners and surrender their business to God to be used to build His Kingdom and not their own
- Pray they would walk in righteousness and integrity in all business dealings
- Pray they would use their resources generously and would use their businesses to bless others

MANAGERS
- Pray managers would serve wholeheartedly, as if they were serving the Lord, not people, because they know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. Pray they would treat their employees in the same way- not threatening them, recognizing their Master is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him -Eph 6:9
EMPLOYEES
- Pray employees would obey their earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on them and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Pray that whatever they do, they would work at it with all their heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since they know they will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward -Colossians 3:22-24
- Pray that any who are out of work would quickly find a job

- Pray they would trust in the Lord and submit to Him, not leaning on their own understanding, and look to Him to make the way straight before them -Proverbs 3:5-6
